This book is an indispensable, practical guide for mental health professionals who wish to understand the complexities of bipolar disorder. It offers a flexible assessment and treatment model, with valuable strategies for improving the quality of life of people with this challenging, chronic disorder. Effective interventions are provided for patients who have a range of histories, including those who are newly diagnosed, those whose symptoms are stable, and those who have difficulty maintaining symptom remission.
This collaborative approach facilitates identification of the patient's needs, medication compliance and recognition of early warning signs of manic and depressive episodes.
Using cognitive-behavioral techniques, the patient learns skills for coping, problem-solving skills and strengthening interpersonal relationships. This book is rich with the authors' extensive experience, insight and expertise in their work with bipolar disorder.
